It was one of the most exciting ways to start the new school year -PAAN Jam 2015!
More than 300 kids, parents, and friends of the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network packed out the Pearl Theatre Wednesday for the annual back-to-school kick-off ; the best one to date.
The list of talent and fun was endless. Motivational speakers, health and wellness professionals, singers, rappers, and dance groups rounded out the list of performers for the evening. They not only kept our kids entertained but many encouraged our youth to succeed this school year by staying positive, setting goals, and never giving up.
The original movie “Black Crown”, produced and written by our Intensive Prevention Services Youth Partners, debuted. In the 15-minute “docu-drama”, our youth shared their real experiences on overcoming violent behavior, conflict resolution, policing, and drugs. They credited our dedicated workers and life-changing programs with giving them a second chance and helping them to discover their purpose.
Our PAAN staff was on hand to give away more than 100 book bags filled with school supplies to our kids.
A special thank you to all of our sponsors, participants, youth, parents, and especially to the event coordinators Keith Ruffin of Ruffin Vision Network and PAAN’s Director of Quality Assurance Pamela Lackey for an exciting event. We can’t wait until next year!
