Our Intensive Prevention Services youth partners recently showcased their talents and part of their transformation journey in their latest music project, Royal Dreamz ’16.
In this raw musical autobiography, our teens share their candid, moving, and sometimes gut-wrenching experiences set to hip-hop beats. For several months they worked with local producers, sound engineers, and our IPS staff to write and produce original music for the 7-song disc.
In “Oh Lord” one of our teens talks about coping with the loss of both parents; one to drugs and the other to murder. In the song he questions why he was dealt the hand he was given and ask for answers in a passionate plea.
In Royal Dreamz ’16 our youth envision and describe what a perfect world would look like living in North Philadelphia; there are no drugs, no violence, nor death. They call it a new world.
Last month the group got a chance to perform some of their hits in front of family and friends during a live show at West Kensington Ministry.
We hope you’ll take a listen and share your thoughts below. Congratulations to all of our youth!
